Funeral services for Howard&lt;br /&gt;
J. Mattes, W427 Twenty-fourth,&lt;br /&gt;
who died in a local hospital&lt;br /&gt;
Wednesday, will be Friday at 3&lt;br /&gt;
p.m. in Hazen &amp;amp; Jaeger Funeral&lt;br /&gt;
Home.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Rev, Raymond W. Moody&lt;br /&gt;
will officiate. Entombment will&lt;br /&gt;
follow at Riverside Mausoleum.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A native of Iowa, Mr. Mattes&lt;br /&gt;
had lived here 37 years and had&lt;br /&gt;
been a resident of the Inland&lt;br /&gt;
Empire for 63 years.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He entered a lumber business&lt;br /&gt;
at Reardan, Wash., in 1905 and&lt;br /&gt;
moved to Spokane in 1927. He&lt;br /&gt;
had also established lumber&lt;br /&gt;
interests at Edwall, Harrington&lt;br /&gt;
and Davenport.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was a member of Manito&lt;br /&gt;
Masonic Lodge, Manito&lt;br /&gt;
Presbyterian Church and Central Lions&lt;br /&gt;
Club.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include his wife,&lt;br /&gt;
Rose, at the home; two daughters,&lt;br /&gt;
Mrs. Katherine Laing and&lt;br /&gt;
Mrs. E. J. Crosby, and two&lt;br /&gt;
grandsons, all of Spokane.&lt;br /&gt;
