Howard Joseph Mattes, who<br />
died here Aug. 19 at the age<br />
of 82, left a community property<br />
estate estimated at more than<br />
$200,000, according to probate<br />
papers filed at the county clerk's<br />
office.<br />

In a will, Mattes left his home,<br />
car and personal effects to his<br />
wife, F, Rose Mattes; directed<br />
that $5,000 trust funds be set<br />
up from estate income for the<br />
education of two grandsons, Edward<br />
Nathaniel Crosby and<br />
Howard Mattes Crosby; gave<br />
$1,000 each to his daughters,<br />
Katherine Laing and Margaret<br />
Crosby, and gave the net in<br />
come from the rest of the estate<br />
equally to his wife and daughters.<br />

After their death, the will<br />
directed, the body of the estate<br />
is to go to the grandsons after<br />
the younger one's 30th birthday,<br />
provided that if either became<br />
a Catholic priest, his share would<br />
go to the other. If both become<br />
Catholic priests, the will directs,<br />
the estate is to go equally to<br />
Manito Presbyterian Church<br />
