REARDAN, Wash, — Graveside services<br />
for Sister Juliana<br />
Padley, C.S.J., 62, of Spring<br />
Lake, N.J., were held recently<br />
at Bellevue, Wash.<br />
<br />
Born in Reardan, Sister Padley<br />
graduated from Lewis and<br />
Clark College and the University<br />
of Washington. She received<br />
a law degree from Washington<br />
in 1931, then practiced law until<br />
becoming a nun in 1946. She<br />
taught school at St. Margaret’s<br />
and Blanchet High School in British<br />
Columbia, From 1961 to 196<br />
she was the provincial secretary<br />
for the Sisters of St. Joseph at<br />
Bellevue, then moved to New<br />
Jersey where she was secretary-general<br />
of the Sisters of St. Joseph.<br />
<br />
Sister Padley was a member<br />
of the Washington State Bar Association,<br />
Pi Sigma Alpha, a political<br />
science fraternity; Phi<br />
Delta, a women’s law sorority,<br />
and the Gavel, a debate honorary.<br />
She also received the Coif<br />
Award at the law school.<br />
<br />
Sister Padley was the daughter<br />
of the late Mr. and Mrs.<br />
W. H. Padley of Reardan. Her<br />
father was superintendent of<br />
Reardan schools some 70 years<br />
ago, then superintendent of Lincoln<br />
County schools and later<br />
postmaster and an attorney at<br />
Reardan for many years.<br />
