Service for Lawrence H. Carstens, 72, a lifetime&lt;br /&gt;
resident of Reardan, Wash., and former&lt;br /&gt;
manager of Reardan Grain Growers, was today&lt;br /&gt;
at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Private burial service was at Reardan Cemetery.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mr. Carstens died Sunday at Sacred Heart&lt;br /&gt;
Medical Center in Spokane.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The son of William and Lila (Thompson) Carstens,&lt;br /&gt;
he was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Reardan. His&lt;br /&gt;
father and his grandfather, Claus Carstens, were&lt;br /&gt;
Eastern Washington pioneers, settling in the&lt;br /&gt;
Reardan area in 1884.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Lawrence Carstens farmed 27 years at Reardan&lt;br /&gt;
and then served as manager of Reardan&lt;br /&gt;
Grain Growers for 14 years, retiring in 1974. He&lt;br /&gt;
was a charter member of the Reardan Lions and&lt;br /&gt;
a former member of Reardan Memorial Library&lt;br /&gt;
board.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was a member of Spring Creek Grange, an&lt;br /&gt;
honorary member of Pacific Northwest Grain&lt;br /&gt;
Dealers Association and honorary chapter&lt;br /&gt;
farmer of Future Farmers of America.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mr. Carstens and the former Viola Stutheit,&lt;br /&gt;
who were married in Reardan, celebrated their&lt;br /&gt;
50th wedding anniversary June 27.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include his wife, at the Reardan&lt;br /&gt;
home; two sons, Paul Carstens of Oshkosh, Wis.,&lt;br /&gt;
and Clifford Carstens of Reardan; and six grandchildren.&lt;br /&gt;
