The year, 1966, is the hall mark in the history of the Reardan library. From its small beginning in 1915 when the Rev. William Schoeler gave an affair to which each person brought one or more books, to the present when the library includes thousands of books, it has grown. From a shelf in [[Hanel’s Drug Store]] to the present Memorial Library, it has expanded by means of community loyalty and voluntary hard work.

Formerly the building was the home of the Reardan Memorial Clinic and was dedicated on June 5, 1948, to the following veterans who gave their lives in the Second World War: [[Joe E. Mann]], [[Roger Mahrt]], [[Gus Magnuson|Gus A. Magnuson]], [[Marvin Zwainz]], [[Kenneth Tyler]], [[Jack Zeimantz]], [[Lewis Supinger]], [[Arthur Seeger]] and [[Frederick Wollenberg|Fredrick Wallenberg]]. For a while the clinic flourished; but the time came when having served its purpose, it closed its doors.

On Jane 5, 1968, the Twenty-third Community Day, the Memorial Library will not only benefit from the proceeds, but also it will be formally opened to our friends. Truly it has been “a giant’s step.”
