GENERAL
The Reardan Chapter entered the Master Chapter Award Contest. The group won the award for the second time. Reardan was one of fifty chapters out of 138 in the state to receive this rating. The chapter won the School Farm Shop Safety Award for the first time. The Reardan boys also entered the State Chapter Contest for the first time. The chapter received a Bronze Emblem rating.
The Reardan F. F. A. chapter officers conferred the Greenhand degree on thirteen candidates at an initiation on October 26, 1954, in the Multipurpose room of the grade school. The Reardan and Davenport chapters conducted the Chapter Farmer Ceremony together at Reardan; six Reardan boys received the degree. The chapter also sponsored a Harvest Ball. Robert Rux, Gary Larue and Eddie Lynch were in charge of arrangements.
The Reardan F. F. A. officers attended an officers training school at the Centennial Flour Mills in Spokane. Walter Clouse was selected secretary for the district meeting.
The members of the Reardan F. F. A. fixed a window display in Barnard’s Insurance office to recognize National Future Farmers Week, Feb, 19-25. The juniors and seniors entered the Farmer Co-operative Quiz Contest. The topic was “Operation of Cooperatives”. Norman Clouse was high and Harold Cox was second.
The junior and senior classes made a field trip to the Star Chincilla farm at Davenport. We also toured the Hereford ranch of Conrad Heid and the Lehn Brothers Hereford ranch. Bill Hanning’s Parakeet farm was also visited. The Gibson Welding Company of Spokane put on a demonstration for us.
The Reardan Crops team judged poultry for the first time at Pullman. The team placed eighth out of ten competing teams,
Rodger Hein was our delegate from Reardan to the State Convention at Pullman this year.
